Breaking Bad (Apologies to AMC)

All of us at one time or another have blown a good break.  Most of us have blown it over such mundane things like not taking a job, quitting a job, ruining a romantic relationship, or by not taking advantage of a really good bargain.  For me it was ignoring a mental flash of the winning poker hand for a California Lotto game that would have won me $5,000!  I didn't mark the hand on my play slip and thus didn't win the $5,000.  But the good thing with most blown breaks is that no one dies (we hope) and that life goes on most of the time. But what about one of those really great breaks that comes around only once in a lifetime?  You know the kind--the one that is a real life changer. 

 

How about being a professional athlete?  There hardly a guy (or nerd) in the world that wouldn't want to be one and live the life of a superstar athlete.  But the lucky dum-dums that blow those lucky breaks repeatedly really frosts the balls of all men relegated to watching sports on TV.  Notable examples of these dum-dums abound, but here are my two all-time favorites.

Lawrence Phillips, Nebraska University football star dragged his girlfriend by her hair down a flight of stairs in a Nebraska U dorm.  But Phillips got a big break when his coach, Dr. Tom Osborn, didn't kick him off the Nebraska college football team and kept him on the team.  Dr. Osborn sincerely thought that Phillips might benefit from staying in a structured environment like a football team.  So how did Phillips handle that break?  He subsequently screwed up with several pro football teams. But they still kept giving him breaks by signing him to lucrative contracts until it became apparent that he was a troublesome bust.  According to the blog Read and React:

In October 2008, Phillips was sentenced to 10 years in prison for assault with a deadly weapon, after running down 3 kids with his car after losing a pick-up football game to them. Let me say that again. He ran over some kids with his car because of a pickup football game!!! AND, at the time he was arrested, Phillips was also wanted by police for yet another domestic violence charge.

Eventually even a deep well runs dry.  Phillips simply ran out of fortunate breaks.

Pitcher Steve Howe was suspended 7 times by Major League Baseball (MLB) for drug and alcohol abuse.  (MLB is currently on a chest thumping binge in which they say that they disdain drug abuse.)  MLB also reinstated Howe 6 times. And teams kept on signing him to lucrative contracts to pitch a baseball until the talent was diminished by drug abuse.  Howe finished his career in 1997 playing with the Sioux Falls Canaries of the minor league American Association.  (Howe died in 2006.)  To say that Howe blew it on blow would be a gross understatement.  

Tiger Woods on the other hand is at a crossroads.  How Tiger Woods handles his current marital and public relations problems will determine whether or not he's blown his big break.  He is a billionaire at 33.  He has a hottie for a wife and healthy children.  He also appeared to be likeble straight shooter...until we found out that he was a serial adulterer.  Some guys like Bill Clinton can get away with it and continue to have the breaks fall his way. 

But there are some things that Americans get really angry and upset about.  They don't like child molesters, dog abusers (the NFL's Michael Vick notwithstanding), and morally inert golfers.  Golf is the only game where golfers are expected to be honest and penalize themselves when they break the rules.  The only penalizing Tiger did was to several bimbos while on the PGA Tour.  Golf fans are angered that Tiger turned out to be just another cheater not to be trusted.  It's too bad that we don't hold our politicians to the same standard as our golfers.

When you consider that in 220 years only 44 men have been the President of the United States, you get a sense of the great accomplishment that it is to hold that office.  You also realize that it requires a great many fortunate breaks to attain the Presidency.  To bear witness to the current office holder defiling the Office of the President is to watch the destruction of everything that this great country stands for.  

It would be one thing if the Obama's irrational actions were based upon a deeply held belief system and values.  After all, even an evil man is due some respect if only because he recognizes the difference between good and evil and voluntarily choses evil.  Instead, we have Obama who relies on a teleprompter to convey the commands of his master, George Soros.

In Obama we also have an "empty suit" who while an Illinois State Senator voted "present" 193 times on legislation. Take a gander at how Obama's fellow bipartisan political weasels defend such a gutless position:

Obama’s former colleagues who still serve [sic] in the Illinois Capitol say that the attacks are off-base and that either Obama’s opponents don’t understand how things work in Springfield or they are deliberately distorting his record.

“To insinuate the ‘present’ vote means you’re indecisive, that you don’t have the courage to hold public office, that’s a stretch. But, it’s good politics,” said state Rep. Bill Black (R), a 22-year veteran of the House and his party’s floor leader…

The “present” vote in Illinois is sometimes cast by state lawmakers with a conflict of interest who would rather not weigh in on an issue. Other times, members use the option to object to certain parts of a bill, even though they may agree with its overall purpose.

“The ‘present’ vote is used, especially by more thoughtful legislators, [sic] not as a means of avoiding taking a position on an issue, but as a means of signaling concerns about an issue,” said state Rep. John Fritchey (D), an Obama supporter. [Emphasis Added.]

What a total crock of crap!  The slimeball  Leftist elitists think [sic] that the American people are just too damn stupid to understand how things work in the "big time" world of legislation.  These "rubes" simply don't understand that a "present" vote is just plain "good politics" practiced by "thoughtful legislators"!  But think about the scary notion that Obama may also have had 193 potential "conflicts of interest" and then you realize how very dangerous his legislative "experience" really is.  Moreover, in 4 years as a US Senator, Obama attended Senate sessions a total of 143 days.  No busboy in a restaurant dive would keep his job with an attendance record as poor as that.

The offenses against American values committed by Barack Obama have piled up in the 11 plus months since the US government has been under the Bolshevik Captivity.

Our environmentAL problem

Ever notice how many villians, crooks, and ne'er do wells seem to be named "Al"?  Gangster Al Capone, Al Qaeda, shoe salesman Al Bundy, Senator Al Franken, propaganda mill Al Jazzeera,  the Reverend Al Sharpton, Deadwood's Al Swearengen, and Weird Al Yankovic are just a few of the more questionable persons, places and things named "Al" that have caused or are causing pestilence, disease, famine, crime, poverty, and outright poor taste.  You can be certain that the Four Horseman of the Apocalypse were probably led by a guy named Al.

The latest miscreant named Al that is causing havoc is the corpulent eco-flim flam man Al Gore.  Now he really hates carbon!   But never mind that his family greatly benefitted from investments and other associations with Occidental Petroleum (liquid  carbon) before the family's Occidental stock was sold in 2003.  Most media stories and more accurately the non-stories on the subject clean-up and minimize Gore's contradictory life and continue to tout Gore's pseudo-science of global warming/climate change.

Since his failed bid for the Presidency, Gore has reinvented himself as an environmental entrepreneur [sic].  Gore's net worth went from $800,000 in 2001 to $100,000,000 in 2009.  That's a pretty good prosperity run for a man with little or no marketable job skills or intellect.  And it's not bad for a guy that dropped out of law school and divinity school.  Although with his tremendous ability to produce verbal and written bovine by-products, Gore might have made an excellent religious flim-flam man in the mold of a Jim Bakker.  He certainly preaches like an eco-Elmer Gantry, who had plenty of skeletons to hide like the Sinclair Lewis character.   The pseudo-religious paradigm also rings true for those like Michael Crichton that have criticized environmentalism as a faux religion of Gore's acolytes.

But that's not what is most annoying about Al Gore. He takes credit for things that he does not truly deserve.  He reminds one of the office weasel at work that steals everybody's ideas and takes full credit for them.  Usually there's an enabler like an idiot boss that condones the office weasel's behavior.  In Gore's case it is the Lame Stream Media that is in loco bulla, giving Gore sufficent cover to inject his eco-Nazi enemas into the enviromental debate.  These enemas result in little more than scientific flatulence as the recent Climategate scandal shows. 

The issue has become a strictly monetary one with huge Carbon Credit profits looming for greedy Leftist eco-plutocrats with Cap and Trade legislation and higher taxes for the average joe; it's hard to separate true scientific inquiry from the pseudo-science being shilled by Gore and others.  The thing that tends to indicate that global warming/climate change is not a perilous threat as presumed, is that it is being treated with a public relations approach instead of coordinated action by government, business, and the scientific community.  Coordinated action was taken in the past to meet major crises like the Depression, World War II, and until 2006, the War on Terror, er, I mean "man-made disasters."

Instead there are slick Public Service Announcements about global warming/climate change with diverse characters like Newt Gingrich and Nancy Pelosi making nice and showing their concern for the environment.  As an aside, Gingrich is no stranger to environmental advocacy.   Part of this propagnda campaign include references in TV programs to environmental issues.  These references  are about as subtle as the old "buy popcorn" subliminal messages allegedly inserted in  movies.  Kids get shows like Captain Planet to help with the indoctrination of future voters.  Gore's "docufiction" is part of that indoctrination campaign.  

If Gore were an honorable man (not likely) he would return the Nobel Prize and the Academy Award that he "won" for that mendacious fraud of a film, An Inconvenient Truth, probably the most ironically named film ever.  But when has a Leftist ever admitted wrongdoing?  The Academy Awards and the Nobel Prize have become forums for rewarding political and ideological correctness and have little to do true with merit let alone artistic merit or humanitarian deeds.  Despite an adjudicated finding of nine major errors in the docu-fictional film, An Inconvenient Truth; the die hard true believers and environmental Kool-Aid drinkers insist that the docu-fictional film's "findings" remain basically true.  Ayn Rand put it best when she wrote in her 1971 book Return of the Primative at page 277:

[O]bserve that in all the propaganda of the ecologists—amidst all their appeals to nature and pleas for "harmony with nature"—there is no discussion of man's needs and the requirements of his survival. Man is treated as if he were an unnatural phenomenon. Man cannot survive in the kind of state of nature that the ecologists envision—i.e., on the level of sea urchins or polar bears. . .


In order to survive, man has to discover and produce everything he needs, which means that he has to alter his background and adapt it to his needs. Nature has not equipped him for adapting himself to his background in the manner of animals. From the most primitive cultures to the most advanced civilizations, man has had to manufacture things; his well-being depends on his success at production. The lowest human tribe cannot survive without that alleged source of pollution: fire. It is not merely symbolic that fire was the property of the gods which Prometheus brought to man. The ecologists are the new vultures swarming to extinguish that fire.

The Plutocrats of the Left are the new vultures swarming to destroy the American economy with their "Cap and Trade" legislation.   Most of us regular Joes would call it "Crap and Tax" legislation because the it'll be the regular people that will get crapped on and be taxed heavily for the privileged elites. 

Schadenfreude

Schadenfreude is defined as malicious or smug pleasure derived from the misfortunes of others. It seems that schadenfreude is the paradigm of the 21st century, that and an obsessive desire to be famous—or infamous—as the case may be on You Tube.  

And it is media manipulation that feeds the public's seeming obsession with schadenfreude. The media will build up a celebrity or other noteworthy person only to tear them down during sweeps week or when the gossip magazine's circulation needs a boost.

The only thing missing from Henley's lyrics is how the media builds up a celebrity for ratings and then tears them down solely for ratings.

Tiger Woods is a good example of this build them up to tear them down media formula. In response to the mystery surrounding his "automobile accident" his media advisors surrounded the wagons and cut off most all dialogue with the media.  Except for a statement on his website, Woods wasn’t talking. Woe unto any celebrity that will not talk to the media. You can bet that the crack “journalists” on the story had their feelers out for any dirt on the Golden Boy—and they got it in bulk. Within hours, a voicemail message from Tiger to a girlfriend and hundreds of “sext” messages to and from his paramour(s) entered the public domain. Tiger Woods makes for good ratings whether he’s walking on the golf course or running around on his wife.  This morning a contrite Tiger issued an apology.  It seems that the media had finally tamed the Tiger.

Now we seem to be engaged a silly national dialogue about role models. Values and role models should come first and foremost from the family. The notion that anyone should be an automatic role model merely because of his or her celebrity is stupid. Moreover the higher the pedestal the more destructive will be the fall from grace. And as we have learned a media erected pedestal is the flimsiest foundation to base a life upon, i.e., faux adoration.

But the media will also do a reversal of fortune for celebrities when it suits their purpose. As tragic as Michael Jackson’s death was the seemingly endless news coverage of it became fawning drivel masquerading as hard news. The sheer hypocrisy of those that only short months ago were mocking Michael Jackson with child molestation jokes was beyond any credible belief. In a few days after his sudden death, Michael Jackson was transformed from a talented, but flawed “has been” to the Greatest Showman on Earth. The child molestation accusations as well as Jackson’s pathologically bizarre behavior were ignored by the media.

It is often said that we are a celebrity obsessed society. That’s not necessarily a bad thing, as long as you’re watching TMZ, Access Hollywood, Extra or any other celebrity driven program for the entertainment value.  The danger is when tabloid “news” stories supplant real news stories--important stories like an unfocused National Healthcare reform initiative and America’s growing joblessness. These stories are far more important than the journalistic junk food being fed to the public. But such lightweight treatment of the news by the Lame Stream media shouldn’t be surprising at all.

The American Mugabe, Barack Obama became a media created macho man several months ago when he obliterated a fly on camera during a CNBC interview. Of course adding to the surreal silliness of this “news story” is PETA condemning the American Mugabe’s “execution” of a fly. I used to believe that kind of silly stuff happens only on TV reality shows. Go figure.

What's in a Name?

The time clock is running out on the hoax known as Man-Made Global Warming or Climate Change if you must dress it up to look scientific.  As the recent scandal involving hacked e-mails from the University of East Anglia in England shows a narrow-mindedness of the part of the so-called scientists that is unparalleled in the history of science.  The e-mails show a conscious attempt to suppress contrary evidence and intimidate scientific journals that might foster peer review of this wacked-out theory.

Not since the Catholic Church  condemned heliocentrism as "false and contrary to Scripture" in February  of 1616, has ignorance been so acceptable.  For those of you that would like to call me the one who's ignorant I point to the fact that the Clown Prince of Climate Change, Al Gore won't debate the issue.  Maybe the Eco-Flim-Flam Man knows that even if he debated the little hand grenade Ross Perot on Climate Change he'd still lose. 

Just 30 years ago Eco-Nazis were pushing the equally idiotic concept of global cooling.  Newsweak (see the illustration to the left) ran an article on global cooling.  When this didn't catch on the eco-Nazis changed the name of the crisis to Global Warming.  When that didn't work it became Climate Change.  Are you catching on to this little shell game?  It is nothing more than a PR game designed to sell you on the concept of voluntarily surrendering your basic freedoms and individuality.  Picture a day in the future when you will need a permit to hold a Fourth of July barbeque in your own backyard.  Do I have your attention now?

Is Dubai Too Big to Fail?

Is Dubai the same as AIG?  Is it too big to fail?  Should the United Arab Emirates bail out its partner? We'll soon find out when a $60 billion debt default by one of Dubai's state-owned conglomerates shakes out.  The impending default hit hard the stock markets in Asia and Europe.  One would have expected gold to have soared in value.  Instead, according to the Wall Street Journal:

The dollar and the yen roared higher Friday as the fallout from the Dubai debacle continued to resonate through global financial markets. Proving that gold doesn't always benefit during bouts of risk aversion, gold fell 4% along with a decline in crude oil.

Meanwhile, equities markets across Asia fell sharply Friday. Japan's Nikkei 225 Average fell 3.2% to 9081.52, its lowest close since July. In Hong Kong the Hang Seng Index plunged 4.8% or 1075 points to 21134.50, led down by banking stocks. HSBC Holdings shares in Hong Kong fell 7.6% and Standard Chartered shares closed down 8.6% on news the banks were directly exposed to Dubai's debt problems. [NN: Emphasis added.]

US banks although not directly exposed could take a major financial hit according to CNN, "...the ripple effect could be more crippling, according to Richard Bove, a bank analyst with Rochdale Securities."   Bove went on to state,

...the underlying problem is that there is a lot of uncertainty floating around. For example, there's little information available about counterparty derivatives, guarantees that transfer default risk from lenders to other financial institutions. And it's unknown how much of Dubai World's debt guarantee is held by U.S. banks.

Now there is pressure on the United Arab Emirates (read Abu Dhabi) to step in with financial support (read bailout) for Dubai's financial problems.  Are they thinking of the wildly successful US TARP (Troubled Asset Relief Program) bailout of banks holding bad paper?

Flashback to the looting of US Treasury by the new Wall Street Leftist Robber Barons, the key words of the day were that such companies like AIG holding this bad paper were "too big to fail" and that we were facing the biggest financial crisis since the Great Depression. 

From the auto industry to state and local governments, everything seems to be falling apart in this country. Yet, there are some people walking the streets free as birds that are responsible in large part for this economic mess.  Bush Treasury Secretary Hank "Shifty" Paulson is probably the greatest flim flam man in the history of the United States. He managed to legally (sic) rob Fort Knox for his Wall Street Left Winger Masters  after others have failed miserably to rob Ft. Knox.  Prominent Wall Street Left Wingers include Robert Rubin, Warren Buffett, Larry Summers, and just anybody that works for Goldman Sachs or Morgan Stanley.  (So much for the bulls**t about rich Republicans.)

The Emergency Economic Stabilization Act of 2008 (ESSA) was initially intended to be the U.S. financial system bailout. It authorized the U.S. Secretary of the Treasury to spend up to $700 billion to purchase distressed financial assets. The man on the street understood this law as being intended to cover the assets of banks and financial institutions holding bad mortgage-backed securities and to make capital available to those institutions in order to prevent a major depression.

This scam by Shifty Paulson grew from a sketchy three page notes to 110 weasel-worded pages. Meanwhile, fellow flim-flam, ex-Fannie Mae front man, Franklin Raines is laughing his $93 million in bonuses assets off in fancy restaurants in DC. The noted House  imbecile Maxine Waters and the gay pimp Barney Frank covered for corrupt leftists like like Raines.  The Wall Street big boys, (a.k.a., the Masters of the Universe, see the Tom Wolfe novel Bonfire of the Vanities for an explanation of the reference), are also getting some of that government loot. [NN: Note to self: It pays handsomely to have friends in high places. Yeah I know that Liberal dumbells everywhere will say that everybody does it! Yeah but it's still illegal and unethical.] 

Meanwhile, the American taxpayer as always will be left holding the bag and will be rewarded with huge tax increases to cover the cost of corruption. ESSA also included a variety of “buy offs” (similar to earmarks) designed to get a sign-off from individual Congressmen/women for legalized theft of taxpayer money. American taxpayers were told UNLESS THIS WAS DONE IMMEDIATELY THE WHOLE WORLD WIDE FINANCIAL SYSTEM WOULD COLLAPSE!  If things were really that bad why did Slick Hank feelthe need to buy Congressional votes?  Well, 13 months later most of the TARP loot is unspent, Goldman Sachs Execs are getting great bonuses, and unemployment is over 10%.  How's that "Hope and Change" workin' out for you Dumbos that voted for Ovomit?  I hope that the UAE honchos will be smarter than the Brainiac Liberals that are running America.

There is a scandal brewing in the Global Warming "scientific community" that has many people's slimy carbon fingerprints all over it.   It seems that the Global Warming (a.k.a., Climate Change)  "scientific" data is "fake" and isn't worth the paper that it's written on.  In 1,079 emails and 72 documents that were hacked from the University of East Anglia's Climate Research Unit (CRU) e-mail system, we have come to find that there has been collusion and destruction of documents, as well as the intimidation and suppression of contrary views or by boycotting of journals that publish contrary views.  We can see the obvious conspiracy by the Leftist Environmental Movement to use this hoax to impose control over every aspect of our lives. 

The New York Times to its eternal discredit has indicated that it will not publish these 1,079 emails and 72 documents because in their words:

The documents appear to have been acquired illegally and contain all manner of private information and statements that were never intended for the public eye, so they won’t be posted here.

Oh really?  What did the New York Times consider The Pentagon Papers?  Weren't they classified documents that weren't intended for public consumption. If memory serves weren't they illegally obtained by theft by Dr. Daniel Ellsberg.  This is an example of the selective morality of the Left.  They will always excuse their pecadillos but never anything, however minor of their enemies real or imagined. Their ire has always been directed to big corporations that are the bane of all good Leftists.

Make no mistake, the Left is as greedy and ruthless as any 19th Century Robber Baron.  For example, Al Gore, the Climate Change Flim Flam Man, is certainly not in need of any more money, got $529.7 million in grant funds to build environmentally friendly cars in Finland of all places!  What about unemployed Americans that need jobs? Well, the ugly truth is that Liberals don't give a damn about the little guy!  Especially if scam income is involved where a Liberal crook is able to invest someone else's money.  In this case it's taxpayer's money that was given to the über scam artist Gore.

Democrats/Liberals/Socialist are always the first ones to yell "hypocrite" at Republicans and Conservatives that do not live up to phony superhuman standards as defined by the Left.  Yet, they are the first ones to make dozens of excuses for their screw-ups and flaws. Take for example this justification entitled, Al Gore: "Carbon Billionaire"? from the This is Diversity v 1.0 blog for the corpulent Gore's ascent to carbon-based wealth while pushing this Global Warming/Climate Change scam:

Conservatives are accusing Gore of profiting off of the very causes he's built his career on since leaving office in 2001. As a partner at a venture capital firm that invests in green energy innovators, Mr. Gore has developed a reputation among his supporters as a man who puts his money [sic] where his mouth is. But when one of those investments stands to receive more than $500 million in a new government grant for developing smart grids, some people see a conflict of interest.

In other words, is Al Gore using the green revolution he helped start to get rich?

If you think this is a new question, think again. People have been speculating about Gore's sincerity for years, and this latest development merely proves that whenever a man of great influence makes a difference, there will always be those who shout "Hypocrite! Sell-out! Liar!" from their rooftops.

Should Gore's wealth be our primary concern here? Why do people care? If his efforts are helping the environment and generating a profit, isn't that a win-win for everyone involved? If he continues to make money by investing in green energy, then others with capital will join him and create more green investment opportunities and jobs that benefit the global economy as well as global ecology. Isn't that a good thing? [DK: In other words, the end justifies the means.]

Remember that old Adolph and boys--(DK: i.e., the National Socialists and purveyors of mass pseudoscience--think Nazi Dr. Mengale's "scientific experiments")--also used the Machiavellian concept of the "the ends justify the means" also sometimes called consequentialism.    But Al Gore shows his hypocrisy in other ways by not walking the walk while allegedly talking the talk.  For example, while exorting others to leave a small carbon footprint Gore ran up a $30,000 electric bill for his mansion.  But Al Gore assuages his environmentalist guilt by living a "carbon neutral" lifestyle by buying carbon credits from a company he owns. This modern equivalent of the indulgences sold by the Catholic Church in the 1500s and leading to the Protestant Reformation. 

And this is the whole point of this Global Warming/Climate Change  hoax and conspiracy--plutocrats like Gore will continue to prosper while you sacrifice and pay higher taxes.  Fortunately, there are consequences including legal action against these fraudmeisters. But as we know with drug cartels and the global warming conspiracy, only the mules will get caught.

THE KULTURE VULTURE: 'Scuse Me While I Kiss this Guy (Apologies to Jimi Hendrix)

Over 1500 complaints were filed on Monday probably by irate Eastern and Central Time Zone viewers of Sunday's live broadcast of the American Music Awards (AMA) on ABC. The complaints were over Adam Lambert's kiss with a male keyboard player and other homoerotic acts.  The performance came as a "surprise" to ABC because the amorous moments were not part of the rehearsals for the show, more on that below.



ABC also did not expect one of the backup dancers to stick his face in the singer's crotch during the S & M charged performance.  Crotchety viewers of the live broadcast complained heartily. But viewers on the West Coast didn't get exposed to the face-off between Lambert and the male dancer because it was cut out of the tape-delayed broadcast. This is odd inasmuch as there is a large gay population on the West Coast. 

So what was the harm in the multiple displays of "affection" during the Lambert performance?  He did kiss a girl dancer or, at least I think it was a girl. Bipartisan, we're told by our politicians is a good thing.  So why not buy-sexuality? After all, Gays are a huge consumer group with lots of disposable income; at least before the recent recession cum mini-depression.

There seems to be no problem with having dog killers, wife beaters, accused murderers, drug addicts, drug dealers, drunk drivers, and other assorted misfits entertaining broadcast TV sports fans of the National Felons League.  Never mind talking about the wealthy thugs in National Badboys Association. There's all kinds of muck on broadcast TV. 

But maybe it's just as well that we limit the debauchery on broadcast TV. Broadcast TV should show only such highbrow fare as Jerry Springer, Big Brother, or the ever informative TMZ.  The only question that remains in this fiasco is that after the Super Bowl fiasco involving Janet Jackson's wardrobe malfunction, aka the nipple seen round the world; why wasn't there any video delay technology available for the AMA live broadcast?  Hmmmmm, ya think that ABC is bulls***ing us about their shock at the Lambert performance?  Me thinks that the ABC suits protest too much.
